Dharohar : A Study Of Patiala Jutti

" Dharohar "
A Study on the Craft of Patiala Jutti

The Craft Cluster Initiative of National Institute of Fashion Technology, aims at the recognition and acknowledgment of Crafts and Textile Clusters in India. As a part of this initiative, our group was sent to Patiala to study the craft of "Patiala Jutti". In this process, we created a documentary and a publication documenting the on ground research. This project is a glimpse of that research endeavour.

Indian handicrafts have always been a source of great pride for our nation and "Patiala Jutti" has been an avid contributor in the glorification of India's heritage. Consequently, we named our document and documentary "Dharohar : Dhara se Dharohar Ka Safar". For the color palette of the cover, we opted for orange to encapsulate the vibrance of Patiala, Punjab and white to incorporate the element of elegance.

In order to encapsulate the essence of Patiala and the royal "Jutti", we researched on typefaces and color palettes until we finally found the desired output. The specification sheet is given above. Following this specification sheet we created a publication documenting the research. The following are some of the spreads from the publication.

Along with the presentation, we also created a documentary of the same title following the journey of the craft as well as the life of the artisans. Have a look below :
